Why I Chose to Live in the Philippines - 10 REASONS TO LIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES
10 REASONS TO LIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES. The title of this video - "Why I chose to live in the Philippines" - is pretty ironic really, as those viewers who’ve been watching my channel for awhile will know - I didn’t really choose the Philippines early on - the Philippines chose me. I’d never been to the Philippines before. Unlike many expats who have specifically made a conscious decision to retire in the Philippines, the Philippines was never on my radar. I’d been to the majority of Asian countries, but never the Philippines. I’d met filipinos throughout my travels but never found filipinas very appealing, more attracted to the ladies from the surrounding Asian countries. But I was in my late fifties now and whilst watching UA-cam videos from Gio and Reekay…. I came across the filipina mantra that age doesn’t matter with regard to dating foreigners - which was music to my ageing ears.
I've spent 4 and a half years living in the Philippines. Have visited the majority of major cities, plus a handful of smaller islands and beach areas, so I’ve built up a pretty good picture of what different places offer. Which ever place I’ve visited in the Philippines, I’d always think - Could I live Here? And whether the place fulfills all my requirements…… such as Alfresco bars/diners, parks, open spaces. Is it safe? Easily walkable? Not too polluted, dirty or busy with traffic? Is an Airport close? How is the public transportation? Are there condos on offer at around $300 per month that come with pool and decent gym? The proximity to a good Beach. That doesn’t consist of volcanic black sand.
Philippines has over 7,000 islands. Do you like a big Asian city such as Cebu city rather than the province? Which are the Best Islands or Cities to Live? Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food, scenery, long visas entice foreigners to live in the Philippines. Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends, but so last century. When you're there you feel like you're stuck in an 80s/90s time warp with the old skool music blaring out and the outdated infrastructure.
In order to live here you need to embrace the Philippines wholeheartedly. Accept its forthcomings. Warts n all. I’ve learned to chill. I’ve learned to be patient.I may be raging inside but there’s nothing I can do about it and I don’t need my blood pressure to rise anymore thanks very much.
The Philippines has so much to offer. And although I’ve lived here over 4 years and a half years I’m still discovering new gems. I mean you’re not gonna visit many of the 7, 641 islands. In fact I’d wager that 99% of expats living here have not visited more than 6 islands. You can find what you want here depending on your preferences and interests. You just have to look around and find which place works for you.
You can live in a busy, crowded city like Manila or Cebu or Cagayan de Oro; live in a quieter city like Iloilo or Tagbilaran; or city with a cooler climate like Baguio or Malaybalay. Or live on the beautiful island of Boracay which has accommodation, bars and restaurants to suit all budgets and also small enough to see the sun rise on one side of the island and also set on the other side of the island.
I’m a city boy who loves beaches. But that doesn’t stop me appreciating the natural beauty of its lush landscape as I’m travelling around the different islands. So it rains a lot in the Philippines, but the sun also shines every day. Which for a pasty white boy from the UK is one of the biggest incentives of living in the Philppines. Sure, you could say that about all the other Asian countries too, where the sun also shines every day, but I don’t wanna live there. Why? Now a lot of my reasons for choosing the Philippines (Or not) are to do with the people.

Why not live in a number of Asian countries, rather than settle in just one?
Переглядів 5 тис.14 годин тому
Where is the best country to live or retire to in Asia? I hear this question a lot. But why do you need to settle in just one place rather than alternating between a number of Asian countries? What are the Pros and Cons OF TRAVELLING around neighbouring Asian countries? Travelling is so much easier now as opposed to when I travelled around Asia fifteen years ago using a guidebook. I’ve travelle...
MONTHLY COST OF LIVING in Tokyo, Japan: Rent/Groceries/Travel/Sim Card.

What is the Cost of Living in Tokyo today? In this video I breakdown my monthly outgoings for living in Tokyo for one month, including Apartment Rent, Groceries, Travel, Sim Card and other expenses. I first stayed in Japan during the winter 2007. The yen was at 240 yen to the British pound. The best it had been for 9 years. I booked an apartment with Sakura House in Tokyo which cost me around £...
TEAMLABS BORDERLESS Digital Arts Museum, Tokyo, Japan. Filming with #DJIPocket3.

Where are the best places to visit in Tokyo? I was advised to visit Teamlabs Borderless Digital Arts Museum. I read reviews where people were saying you need to stay at least 3 hours at Borderless to appreciate the whole experience. After an hour I was already flagging. Perhaps I’m in a minority here, but for me there wasn’t much of a change of scenery between rooms it was just a continuation o...
VISITING BEACHES ONE HOUR FROM TOKYO: Yuigahama & Zushi Beaches, Kamakura, Japan

Are there any decent beaches an hour from Tokyo? I love Cities. I love Beaches. Today I ventured outside Tokyo. Took a train To Yokohama. Then another train to the coast at Kamakura. Walked down to Yuigahama Beach. Then continued around the coast to Zushi Beach. I’ve always had an interest in Japan. In my late teens and twenties I was really into music, listening to punk, new wave and mod bands...
MY THOUGHTS ON JAPAN. Having Lived for 1 MONTH in Tokyo, Japan

What is the experience for foreigners to stay/live for awhile in Japan? I’ve always had an interest in Japan. In my late teens and twenties I was really into music, listening to punk, new wave and mod bands. Popular subcultures were a big thing in the 70’s and 80s and I dressed accordingly, kept in touch with my favourite groups and musicians by reading the New Musical Express and Sounds weekly...

MY PERSONAL OPINION: Where is the Best Place to Live in the Philippines?

Where is the best place to live or retire to in the Philippines? I read this question a lot online, particularly on FB. And I don’t spend much time on Facebook, but every time I look, another person has posted the same question, with commenters putting in their dollar’s worth with where they live whilst others are saying I’m not telling you, this place is perfect and I don’t need it to be overr...

Since it was launched in November 2023, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has been a hard product to find. It's rave reviews have meant that when it comes into stock, it quickly sells out. A year ago I was planning to buy the Pocket 2 but hearing that the camera only has a 1/1.7" sensor I decided against it as my GoPro9 only has a 23.6 Megapixel (MP) sensor, so it's rubbish in low light. But hold the front...

I've been living in the Philippines "Red Zone " as you call it for 5 years now. Before that I was in Cavite on Luzon Island for 2.5 years. It's the people that keep me here. I visited Vietnam 5 years the infrastructure and the food was better there but didn't connect with the people bc of the language barrier. I'm planning a visit to Thailand in January but feel already language will bring me back to the Philippines.

Here are already enough old expats, don't help to make the pinoys an aging society 😊 But honestly, the beauty seems to fade for older men when they find themselfs here after 6 months or so with nothing senseful to do except taking advantage of the happy hour in bars. Don't know what you got til it's gone. . . So much is said in this video about the people, the culture and how intoxicating it can be for foreignors. Although many like to explore other regions, there is a pull from the Philippines that many other SE Asian countries can't provide. Although you aren't a pollyanna about PI land, it has gotten under your skin and will be hard to resist. . .

Welcome Sir. Firstly I advise checking out a number of different cities - get an AirBnB for a couple of weeks in each city to get a feel for the place. Cebu and Davao are totally different. Cebu is a compact city, close to some great islands whereas Davao city is spread out. Check my earlier videos. Good luck.
